Spring Census Information

Please forward to the relevant person in School who deals with the School Census for both SIMS and Arbor

To run the Spring Census, SIMS must be upgraded to the Autumn version of SIMS 7.202. The version of SIMS can be checked via Help | About on the Homepage in SIMS. Schools also need to ensure they have applied Patch 26911 Consolidated Database Patch D (4). The current Fileset is 2003 needs to be applied but please keep an eye on the Customer Portal for any updates.

For Arbor Schools the census is up to date and open now to start to look at.

Collection Periods

  • Attendance from 01/09/2021 to 31/12/2021
  • Exclusions from 05/04/2021 to 31/12/2021
  • FSM from 08/10/2021 to 20/01/2022
  • Alternative Provision Placements collected from 01/08/2021 to 20/01/2022
  • Funding and Monitoring collected from 01/08/2021 to 20/01/2022
  • Learner Support collected from 01/08/2021 to 20/01/2022.


A reminder that details of all classes running at the selected time on Spring census day are based on the last digit of a school’s DFE establishment number.


Funding and Monitoring (FAM) is collected for the first time in this Census please see the guidance in the link for more information on the DfE guidance.


Guidance notes are available to download on the Customer Portal under Student Census for both SIMS & Arbor.


We have scheduled the following SIMS training courses. If you have not completed the January Census before we would highly recommend attending training as this census is quite large and if done incorrectly could result in a loss of funding.

  • 11th January 2022 – SIMS Secondary Census ½ day
  • 14th January 2022 – SIMS Primary Census ½ day
  • 19th January 2022 SIMS Secondary Census ½ day

Places are limited so please book early via  to secure a place and avoid disappointment.
